I Want to Say a Prayer Lyrics

Frozen like ice
Charlie Mingus on a rainy night
Row the boat, fisherman
One more time, one more timeHey, it's all over now
Find a street lamp and take a bow
Dance with a stranger
Love has no fences nowAnd the gun's not loaded
If you want to talk it out
But I'm through explaining
What this life's all aboutI want to say a prayer
Is anybody listening, anybody there?
I want to say a prayer
Is anybody there?Walk down to the scene
Unborn babies and sidewalk machines
Love me in your dreams
One more time, one more timeAnd I'm standing right here
If you want to dance
So hold on, baby

'Cause this might be my last chanceI want to say a prayer
Is anybody listening, anybody there?
I want to say a prayer
Is anybody there?I kneel at the altar of love's tenderness
I'm waiting in the doorway for angels to care
I'm fixing the roof but the rain's coming in
And I can't find the words
Or the courage to ask where you've beenI want to say a prayer
Is anybody listening, anybody there?
I want to say a prayer
Is anybody there?

In the 60's, Colin Blunstone was the lead singer of The Zombies, a british band that developed a distinctive, jazzy sound, in which his soft, laid-back, almost hesitant voice was offset against the equally soft, but flexible and pointy instruments of organ, drum, and bass. The Zombies disbanded. In the early 70's, Blunstone re-emerged as a solo act, and scored several major hits. The music featured rhythm guitar now and ranged from string arranged melodies, to rock, to American folk.
