I Will Not Go Quietly Lyrics

Woke up with a heavy head and I thought about leavin' town
I could've died if I wanted to, slipped over the edge and drowned
But, oh no baby, I won't give up that easy, noToo many tire tracks in the sands of time
Too many love affairs that stop on a dime
Well oh baby, I think it's time to make some changes 'round hereYeah, I'm gonna tear it up, gonna trash it up
I'm gonna round it up, gonna shake it up
Oh no baby, I will not lie downI'm brave enough to be crazy, I'm strong enough to be weak
I see all these heroes with feet of clay
Whose mighty ships have sprung a leak
And I want you to tell me darlin', just what do you believe in now?Well, c'mon over here baby, you 'bout to gimme a heart attack
I wanna wrap my lovin' arms around the small of your back
Yeah, and I'm gonna pull you, pull you, pull you
Pull you right up close to me, yeahYeah we're gonna tear it up, we gonna trash it up
Gonna round it up, gonna shake it up
Oh, no no no, I will not lie downTurn this thing around
I will not go quietly
I will not lie down
I will not go quietlyI will not lie down

I will not go quietly
I will not lie down
No, I will not lie down, noWell, don't you ever get lonely, don't you ever get down?
Don't you ever get tired of all the wicked tongues in this town?
Ooh baby, I just wanna take you away from hereI ain't no tiger, I ain't no little lamb
Suppose you tell me mama, who do you think I think I am?
And ooh baby, don't you give a damn?Yeah, I'm gonna tear it up, gonna trash it up
Gonna round it up, gonna shake it up
Oh baby I will not lie downTurn this thing around
I will not go quietly
I will not lie down
I will not go quietly, I won't goI will not lie down
I will not go quietly
I will not lie down
No, I will not lie down, no

Don Henley (born Donald Hugh Henley in Gilmer, Texas, USA on 22 July 1947) is drummer, singer, and songwriter with the band Eagles. Since the 80s he has had a successful solo career and has played a founding role in several causes.

In 1970, he moved to Los Angeles to record an album with his early band, Shiloh. Shiloh's album was produced by fellow Texan Kenny Rogers. Shortly thereafter, Henley met Glenn Frey. They both became members of Linda Ronstadt's backup band. Touring with her was the catalyst for forming the group. As a result, two months later they, along with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, became their own act, Eagles.

Henley's music is often social commentary. One of his more famous songs is "Dirty Laundry" (from his I Can't Stand Still album, released in 1982). Its origins date back to 1980, when Henley was put on probation for possession of a narcotic and fined for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The ensuing media circus and on-air pundits claiming that his career was over led to the writing of the song, which continues to be an indictment against the broadcast news media. Similarly, "Johhny Can't Read" (also from the Can't Stand Still album), continues to resound as a commentary on the educational system.
