I'd Rather Lyrics

I thought some time alone
Was what we really needed
You said this time would hurt more than it helps
But I couldn't see thatI thought it was the end
Of a beautiful story
And so I left the one I love at home to be alone, aloneAnd I tried and found out this one thing is true
That I'm nothing without you
I know better now
And I've had a change of heartI'd rather have bad times with you
Than good times with someone else
I'd rather be beside you in a storm
Than safe and warm by myselfI'd rather have hard times together
Than to have it easy apart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heart
YeahAnd then I met someone
And thought she could replace you
We got along just fine
But wasted time because she was not youWe had a lot of fun

Though we knew we were faking
Love was not impressed with our connection built on lies, on liesSo I'm here 'cause I found this one thing is true
That I'm nothing without you
I know better now
And I've had a change of heartI'd rather have bad times with you
Than good times with someone else
I'd rather be beside you in a storm
Than safe and warm by myselfI'd rather have hard times together
Than to have it easy apart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heart
Who holds my heartI can't blame you if you turn away from me like I've done you
I can only prove the things I say with time
Please be mine, please be mineI'd rather have bad times with you
Than good times with someone else
(I know)
I'd rather be beside you in a storm
(Anytime)
Than safe and warm by myself
(Surely, surely, baby)I'd rather have hard times together
Than to have it easy apart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heartI'd rather have bad times with you
(Surely)
Than good times with someone else
(Surely)
I'd rather be beside you in a storm
(Oh yeah)
Than safe and warm by myself
(All by myself)I'd rather have hard times together
Than to have it easy apart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heartI'd rather have the one who holds my heart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heart
Who holds my heart

Luther Ronzoni Vandross (April 20, 1951 - July 1, 2005) was an american soul and rnb singer whose career spanned four decades.

In the 70s, he worked as a backing singer Chic and for David Bowie (on the Young Americans album). He later found success as a solo artist with Superstar and A House Is Not A Home.

In the 80s, Vandross was a vocalist on early Change singles (Searching), whilst continuing his solo career with such releases as "Never Too Much", "Power Of Love/Love Power", "If Only For One Night", "Here And Now".

In the 90s, he was more famous for duets with Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey (amongst others), than for his solo work.

It was an ongoing battle with his weight that may have ultimately proved his undoing. He suffered a stroke in 2003, from which he never really recovered, and died in 2005.

During his career, he sold 25 million albums and won eight Grammy awards including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance four times. He won four Grammy awards in 2004, including the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for the track "Dance With My Father," co-written with Richard Marx.
