I'll Turn Square for You Lyrics

I got my alligator shoes
I love rhythm and blues
but I believe I'll turn square for youI got a baby, a fine lady
she looks so nice and neat
the way she walks around, all the boys in town
agree she is so sweet
when she smiles at me, says I'm her honeybee
I tell her I love her trueI got my alligator shoes
I love rhythm and blues
but I believe I'll turn square for you
When she calls my name, my heart becomes a flame
and surely it skips a beat
she never tells a lie, and never makes me cry
she really is a treat
I wouldn't trade your love for nothing in this world
and to prove my love is trueI got my alligator shoes
I love rhythm and blues
but I believe I'll turn square for youI hope it won't be long before I can take you home

to meet my dear old mom
I know you'll get along with all the folks at home
can't wait for that day to come
I wouldn't trade your love for nothing in this world
and to prove my love is trueI got my alligator shoes
I love rhythm and blues
but I believe I'll turn square for you
I got my alligator shoes
I love rhythm and blues
but I believe I'll turn square for you
I believe I'll turn square for you
I believe I'll turn square for you
I believe I'll turn square for you

Bobby Charles was actually born Robert Charles Guidry in Abbeville, Louisiana circa 1938. A regional New Orleans swamp pop fave, whose best known song was "See Ya Later Alligator". That track became a top 20 hit on Chess records in 1955, after a southern Louisiana record store owner hipped the Chicago based R&B label. Bill Haley may have made the song even more popular and accessible a year later, but Charles was first out the gate.
