In Loving Memory of a Name Lyrics

Boom goes my heart
Dancing around your daisies
Church bells will start
Sat on you reading your agesI drift away
In loving memory of a nameCovered in moss
You may have died for your country
Forgotten, not lost
You're laid to rest where you're wantedI stare awhile
In loving memory of a nameEngland can never repay you
You gave your life to be buried alongside
The place you loved
The sermons attended when you were young
Still echo round these churchyard wallsEngland can never repay you
You gave your life to be buried alongside
The place you loved
The sermons attended when you were young
Still echo round these churchyard wallsHeroes and rogues
Together surrounded by nature

Lump in my throat
Sat in the land of your makerI drift awayLoving memory of a name
Loving memory of a name
Loving memory of a name
...

XTC were an influential rock band (starting out as a post-punk outfit but eventually developing into a sound that was a mix of new wave and alternative/college rock) which formed Swindon, England in 1972. For most of their career, the band consisted of Andy Partridge (vocals, guitar), Colin Moulding (vocals, bass) and Dave Gregory (guitar, keyboards). Gregory replaced founding keyboardist Barry Andrews in 1979 and left himself in 1999.
