It Stays Lyrics

Bury it in the garden
At midnight by the moon
Cover up the traces
Lick and dress your wounds
Burn it up or drown it you can try
But what has never lived can never die
And it doesn't go awayIt stays
It stays
It stays
It staysI saw you standing in the kitchen
Drinking champagne from a mug
Should I have waited 'til you noticed me
Was I ash upon the rugSometimes you can not remove the stain
And if you do it's absence still remains
And it doesn't go awayIt stays
It stays
It stays
It stays

It fights another day
It doesn't go away
It stays
It stays
It stays
It staysIt's as simple as that
I can't add to it
We had our chance and we blew it
Worse than that well we knew it
Well we knew itEvery day's the morning after
Maybe last night broke the curse
But it was only in remission
It'll come back even worseIn your dreams its falling far behind
But just like daylight coming through the blinds
It doesn't go awayIt stays
It stays
It stays
It stays
It fights another day
It doesn't go away
It stays
It stays
It stays
It stays
It fights another day
Do not go away
Stay
Stay
Stay
Stay
Do not go away
Stay

John Wesley Harding (b. 22 October 1965) is a folk/pop singer-songwriter who has called his style of music "folk noir" and "gangsta folk". He was born Wesley Stace in Hastings, East Sussex, England. His given name, Wesley, comes from John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, who preached one of his last sermons in the town where Harding was born. His stage name may be seen as an almost inevitable nickname for a folk-pop musician, in that his first name overlaps with the Bob Dylan album (and song) "John Wesley Harding".
