It’s Always Gonna Rain Lyrics

It’s Always Gonna Rain – Jack Ingram & Lori McKenna
Sun has been shining’
For I don’t know how long
Creek beds are empty
And the cotton’s long gone
For folks around here
Hope’s the last thing to go
Even the wildflowers find
Some way to grow
Find some way to grow
Chorus:
Just when you’re down on your knees
Wonder is god listening
Say all your prayers
And lie down to sleep
Just like a dream

It’s always gonna rain
It’s always gonna rain
My dad and his dad
His dad before
Used to stare at the stars
From just off the back porch
Momma was inside
But she never would cry
I’d hear her whisper
Don’t give up on the sky
Don’t give up on the sky
Chorus: It’s always gonna rain x4
Lead:
Your eyes are closin’
Got your windows open
Before you know it
Wind starts blowin’
Not done hopin’
It’s gonna take away your pain
Rain, it’s always gonna
Always gonna rain
It’s always gonna rain
Lead:
Chorus:
This ain’t no dream, its rain

Around the time Jack Ingram started writing songs and performing, he was studying psychology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. "Music and psychology come from the same place," he says. "It's about studying why people tick. I write songs to figure out my world, why people act the way they do, why they make the decisions they do."
Lucky for us, Ingram chose a career in music-and discovered an altogether different kind of therapy. He weaved his questions about life into songs whose depth and incisive wit were matched only by their melodic resonance and insistent hooks.
