It's Mighty Dark to Travel Lyrics

It's mighty dark for me to travel
For my sweetheart, she is gone
Road is rough and filled with gravel
But I must journey on and onTo me she was a little angel
Sent down to me from God above
As on the day that I first met her
That I told her of my loveIt's mighty dark for me to travel
For my sweetheart, she is gone
Road is rough and filled with gravel
But I must journey on and onMany a night we strolled together
Talking of our love so fair
My love for her will never vanish
For I know I'll meet her thereIt's mighty dark for me to travel
For my sweetheart, she is gone
Road is rough and filled with gravel
But I must journey on and onTraveling down this lonesome highway
Thinking of my love who's gone
Knowing soon we'll be together

She's the only love I've knownIt's mighty dark for me to travel
For my sweetheart, she is gone
Road is rough and filled with gravel
But I must journey on and onIt's mighty dark for me to travel
For my sweetheart, she is gone
Road is rough and filled with gravel
But I must journey on and on

Bill Monroe (September 13, 1911 – September 9, 1996) developed the style of country music known as bluegrass, which takes its name from his band, the "Blue Grass Boys," named for his home state of Kentucky. Monroe's performing career spanned 60 years as a singer, instrumentalist, composer and bandleader. He is often referred to as "the father of bluegrass." In the rock (and roll) community, Bill Monroe may be best known via one of Elvis Presley's earliest recordings at Sun Records, that of Monroe's 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'. Patsy Cline also made a highly regarded version of this song.
