It's Only Make Believe Lyrics

By dean friedmanI heard the news today some mother drowned her baby boys
And then went on tv and cried real tears but it was just a ploy.
People wonder what went wrong.
The answer's in this song. You see, it's only make believe.
It's too impossible to believe.
And I'd feel oh so blue,
If it were really true.I heard somebody say, the war in bosnia just won't go away.
And all those refugees, and the constant shelling day after day.
The rape and murdering. it can't be happening. You see, it's only make believe.
It's too impossible to believe.
And I'd feel oh so blue,
If it were really true. And now when I go home I watch the news on cnn
And I remain unfazed when another ten year old gets shot again.
It doesn't bother me.
It's just a fantasy.You see, it's only make believe.
It's too impossible to believe.
And we'd feel oh so blue,
If it were really true. You see, it's only make believe

I'm sure it's only make believe
I hope it's only make believe.

In the summer of 1977, Dean Friedman marked his entry into US pop consciousness with the enormous success (his only American hit, it peaked at #26) of his infectious hit single Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, music loving, vegetarian Jewish girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, "...way on the other side of the Hudson." A year later, Friedman struck a chord in the UK, this time with a magical duet (performed with singer Denise Marsa) entitled Lucky Stars.
