Jangling Jack Lyrics

Jangling Jack
Goes Yackety Yack
Visits the home of the brave
Hails a fat yellow cabJack wanna celebrate
Jack wanna big drink
Driver drops him at a bar
Called the Rinky DinkJack pushes through the door
And he crosses the floor
Tips his hat to a man
Grinning in the cornerGoing do da do, going do da do
Going do da do, going do da doSays, I'm Jangling Jack
I go do da do
I wanna Rinky Dink Special
I wanna little umbrella tooAnd he flops on his stool
Sees the grinning man laugh
So Jack laughs back
Jack raises his glassSays, God bless this country
And everything in it

The losers and the winners
And I said, good guys and the sinnersThe grinning man says
Buddy it's all Yackety Yack
Whips out a little black pistol
Shoots a bullet in JackI hear now Jangling Jack do da do, do da do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, do
Jangling Jack, do do do, do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, doHey buddyJangling Jack flies off his seat
Crashes through the door
Lands in a heap on the streetHears his mother's voice
Going, do da do
Jack is shouting, mummy, mummy
Mummy is that you?He sees the berserk city
Sees the dead stacked in piles
Sees the screaming crowd
Screams, where am I?Going do da do, going do da do
Going do da do, going do da do
Oh yeahJangling Jack, do da do, da da do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, doOh, mummy, mummyWell, Jangling Jack
As a matter of fact
Crawls through the crowd
Back into the barJack crawls to his stool
Jack drags himself up
Falls back down on his ass
In a puddle of bloodGoing goodbye mummy
Goodbye ma
Then Jack doubles over
And he vomits and diesGoing do da do, going do da do
Going do da do, going do da do
Oh yeahJangling Jack, do da do, da da do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do da do
Jangling Jack, do da do, do, do

Australia (1984 – present)
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was originally formed in 1984 by two former members of the Australian band The Birthday Party: Nick Cave (vocals, songwriter, keyboards, harmonica) and multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey. They were joined by Einstürzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (bass, piano). Cave’s former girlfriend Anita Lane was also a creative influence and occasional lyricist. This line-up recorded their debut album, From Her To Eternity, released in 1984. During their initial Australian tour, Birthday Party bass guitarist Tracy Pew also performed with the band.

The name of the new project indicated the shift in Cave’s role from band member, as in The Birthday Party, to band leader, and coincided with his shift in songwriting style from expressionism to detailed lyrical narrative. The group has been through many personnel changes, with Cave and Harvey remaining the constants.

Cave separated from Lane in the mid-1980s and began a relationship with Elisabeth Recker. While in Berlin, he released four albums with the Bad Seeds: The Firstborn Is Dead; Kicking Against the Pricks; Your Funeral… My Trial; and Tender Prey. Kicking Against the Pricks was the first album to feature the drumming of Swiss Thomas Wydler, who is the longest serving member in the band beside Cave and Mick Harvey.

In 1987, the Bad Seeds made an appearance in the Wim Wenders film, Wings of Desire. In 1990, the band collectively eliminated hard drugs from its diet, relocated to Brazil, and released The Good Son. Their next record, 1992’s Henry’s Dream, was the first to feature current members Martyn P. Casey and Conway Savage. Following it came 1994’s Let Love In.
