Joe Harris (Bruges, 25 December 1943 to 1 June 2003) was a Flemish singer.
Harris was born in Bruges, as Georges Lisabeth. He was the youngest child. His parents drove a grocery and a cafe. At twelve, he recorded his first album under the name Harris Joske. He was known as a singer in the sixties and seventies. Initially he sang English songs with Joe Harris and his band The Pink Umbrellas. In 1968 the band had two hits with Hope of a Miracle and Daisy Does. Another English song is' Home isn't home anymore "from 1969. In the seventies, he switched to Dutch.
His first major hit in 1971, Flemish Seeing is believing, a translation of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep Middle of the British formation of the Road. He scored his biggest success in 1975 with Drink Red Wine, a cover of the number Griechischer Wein Udo Jürgens. The production of this song, which became a hit in the Netherlands, was owned by the Dutchman Johnny Hoes. Even after he kept scoring hits.
In the eighties he took to the dance hall and restaurant Itegem "It Seyenhof" about how he had to close in 1992. His marriage fell apart. In 1994 Joe was living with his girlfriend Linda Harris, a former fan, ever since he called his wife even though they were not legally married. In 1999 esophageal cancer was found with him. After surgery he was able to overcome but the almost unbearable pain as a result of the operation continued to haunt him. Yet, he still regularly in nursing homes and senior parties.
On June 1, 2003 Harris was found dead in Bruges, in the Ghent-Ostend. According to police he had committed suicide. Later at autopsy was found that he is deceased from a cardiac arrest.
