John Paul Jones Lyrics

JOHN PAUL JONESWhen John Paul Jones was a little boy he pointed to the sea
Said when I get to be a man a fightin' man I'll be
I'll leave my mark on the ocean and my name in history
When John Paul was a member of the British Admiralty
He killed a sailor on his ship which was a crime you see
He changed his name to JP Jones and came to Amerik-eHe fought in the rain and he fought in the sun and he fought in the moonlight too
He fought with his knife and he fought with his gun
And he fought till his blood ran through
Well John Paul Jones was a fightin' man a fightin' man was he
He sailed to the east and he sailed to the west and he helped set America free[ banjo ]When JohnPaul was a Captain in the US Naval Band
A fightin' for the glory and the freedom of our land
He made those British captains wish that they were on dry land
He sent their mighty vessels to the bottom of the sea
He took their bags of treasure and he sank their chests of Tea
He gave his blood for all free men and his life for libertyHe fought in the rain and he fought in the sun and he fought in the moonlight too
He fought with his knife and he fought with his gun
And he fought till his blood ran through
Well John Paul Jones was a fightin' man a fightin' man was he

He sailed to the east and he sailed to the west and he helped set America free[ banjo ]He fought in the rain and he fought in the sun and he fought in the moonlight too
He fought with his knife and he fought with his gun
And he fought till his blood ran through
Well John Paul Jones was a fightin' man a fightin' man was he
He sailed to the east and he sailed to the west and he helped set America free

John Gale "Johnny" Horton (April 30, 1925 – November 5, 1960) was an American country music and rockabilly singer most famous for his semi-folk, so-called "saga songs" which began the "historical ballad" craze of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With them, he had several major successes, most notably in 1959 with the song "The Battle of New Orleans" (written by Jimmy Driftwood), which was awarded the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording.
