Learning How To Smile Lyrics

Five miles outside of Vegas when we broke down
Threw my keys inside the window and we never looked back
Got all drunk and sloppy on a Greyhound bus
We passed out, all the losers they were laughing at us
I will never let them break your heart
No I will never let them break me
We got lost in phoenix, seems like such a long time
Seven months of living sweaty on those thin white lines
Did some time for selling acid to the wrong guy
Life just keeps on getting smaller and we never ask why
Why there is no perfect place? Yes I know this is true
I'm just learning how to smile, that's not easy to do
I know there will come a day
When we can leave and just go running away
We was broke outside of Philly when the storms came
I was working in New Jersey, hitching rides in the rain
You was happy, talkin' dirty at that phone sex place
Life just keeps on getting better for us everyday

You say there is no perfect place, I say I know this is true
We're all just learning how to smile, that's not easy to do
We both live for the day when we can run away
Oh baby we can leave and run away
Yes we can leave this place and run away
We can leave it all behind like we do every time
Yes we both live for the day
When we can leave and just go running away
No I will never ever break your heart
No I will never let it break me
Five miles outside of Vegas, five years down the line
We got married in the desert and the sunshine
I can't handle how the hell it happens everyday
When you smile and touch my face you make it all just go away
Yes I know there ain't no finish line, I know there's never ends
I'm just learning how to fall and climb back up again
I know there's nothing perfect, I know there's nothing new
We all just learning how to live together, me and you
You know I live for the day when you say baby let's just run away
Oh baby we can leave and run away
Yes we can leave this place and run away
Baby we can leave and run away
We can leave this place and run away
Oh baby we can leave and run away
Yes we can leave this place and run away
We can leave this place and run away
We can leave this place and run away

Everclear is a rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, USA, in 1992. For most of its existence, Everclear consisted of Art Alexakis (b. 12 April 1962, Los Angeles, California, USA; vocals, guitar), Craig Montoya (b. 14 September 1970; bass, vocals) and Greg Eklund (b. 18 April 1970; drums). Eklund replaced original drummer Scott Cuthbert in 1994. Montoya and Eklund departed the band in 2003, but Alexakis has continued performing as Everclear with a new lineup.

After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.

Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.

In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
