Life in the City Lyrics

Cut it down go put it away
Take an inside look on the outside
Another dayTake time look at the sunshine
Have mine it's better on you anywayNobody's perfect all the time
But I know you
And you know me
And it's alrightWaking up gonna buy me some shoes
Take a long walk out of the hindsight start anewLook around maybe buy a new topcoat
Stop moping the rain's gonna rain through
Rain through on you
Yes it's true thatNobody's sunny all the time
But I know you
And you know me
And it's alrightAnd it's your life
And it's my life
It's our life in the cityAnd it's your life
And it's my life
It's our life in the cityGot a new piece out in the hills

Plant a seed I'm in need of a break from the fire drill
Repaint where all the paint ain't
Got a clean slate and maybe we can buy a thrill
I'll foot that bill
Yes I willNobody's busy all the time
Oh thank God that I know you
And you know me
And it's alrightOh, you cut it down go put it away
Take an inside look on the outside
Another dayTake time look at the sunshine
Have mine it's better on you anywayCut it down go put it away
Take an inside look on the outside
Another dayTake time look at the sunshine
Have mine it's better on you anyway

The acoustic rock band Vertical Horizon was formed in 1990 by Georgetown University undergrads Matthew Scannell and Keith Kane; after graduation in 1991 the duo relocated to Boston and, in 1992, self-released their debut album There and Back Again. There and Back Again was recorded in Matt's old high school over a period of a few days, and Matt and Keith together played all the instruments appearing on the album, though they both mostly played acoustic guitar. Both also contributed to writing all the songs, and both sang.
