Little Red Rooster Lyrics

Got a little red rooster
And that rooster lazy just to crow for day
I got a little red rooster
And that rooster too lazy to crow for day
I know he keeps everything in the barnyard
Upset in every wayI heard the dog next door bark
And my hound he began to howl
I heard the dog bark
Oh my hound he began to howl
I said you better watch out all you girls
Big Mama's red rooster
He's now on the prowlBecause he keeps all the hens
Keeps them fighting among themselves
You know he keeps all the hens
Oh he keeps them fighting among themselves
Because he don't want his hens - no
Layin' eggs for no one elseIf you see my red rooster
Please send that rooster back home

If you see - see my red rooster
Please please send him back home
Because we haven't had no peace in the barnyard
Since the little red rooster
I'm talkin' 'bout the little red rooster
I mean that ole little bitty rooster
Cockadoodledoo
Since that rooster been gone

Big Mama Thornton (Willie Mae Thornton, December 11, 1926, Montgomery, AL - July 25, 1984, Los Angeles, CA) was an American blues musician. Her introduction to music, as with most fellow blues legends, started in the Baptist church. The daughter of a minister, she and her six siblings began to sing at a very early age. While still a child, Willie Mae taught herself to play the drums and harmonica, and by the age of 14, she had run away from home to make her career in secular music.
