Long Way to Go (Headed Home) Lyrics

You drink one for your memories
You drink one for yourself
You drink one for the family
Last time you saw them was a long time agoI sing one for the children
You sing one for the miles
You sing one for them pretty green eyes
Im headed home baby, I got a long way to goAnd sing me to sleep sweet city
And let your highway be your lullaby
With nothing in my pocket, no fortune do I know
Im headed home babe, I got a long way to goAnd then you say a little prayer in the morning
You pray for those you left behind
Your heart starts to break as the sun goes down
Im headed home baby, got a long way to goYou sing me to sleep little darling
And do that little dance for me
Nothing in my pocket, no fortune do I know
Im headed home mama, I got a long way to goAnd I will be there by the morning
And I dont know what makes me leave anyway
Anyway, anywayAnd God I miss you little darling

And save that little dance for me
With nothing in my pocket, no fortunes do I know
Im headed home baby, I got a long way to goIts good to be home, its good to be home
Im headed home baby, I got a long way to go

Pat Green was born in San Antonio and raised in Waco, Texas, the eighth of nine siblings. His father was a stage actor, and Green fell in love with the musicals his father acted in. Green began his musical career when he was 18 and in college at Texas Tech in Lubbock. "I started playing guitar to pick up the chicks," Green laughs. "Before that, I only sang in the shower. I could mimic other people's voices. It took me a long time to find my own voice, but once I did, I became very comfortable with it. It's not real pretty but it's believable."
