Love of the Common People Lyrics

Living on Government hand-outs
Water in the milk from a hole in the roof
Where the rain comes through
What can you do? You can't moveYou got tears from your little sister
Crying 'cause she don't have a dress
Without a patch in for the party to go
Aw, but you know she'll get by 'cause she'sLiving in the love of the common people
Smiles through the heart of the family man
Poppa's gonna buy you a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love you just
As much as she can and she canIt's a good think you don't have bus fares
They would fall through a hold in you pocket
And you'd lose 'em in the snow on the ground
You gotta walk into town to get a jobTrying to keep yourself warm
But the hole in your shoe lets the snow comes through
And chills you to the bone
So you better go home where it's warm and you canLiving in the love of the common people
Smiles through the heart of the family man

Poppa's gonna buy you a dream to cling to
Momma's gonna love you just
As much as she can and she canLiving on dreams ain't easy

Stiff Little Fingers are a punk band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, formed in 1977. They started out as a schoolboy band called Highway Star (named after the Deep Purple song), doing rock covers, until they discovered punk. In 1983 they split up after six years and four albums, although they reformed four years later, in 1987. Despite major personnel changes, they are still touring and recording as of 2011.
