Major Organ and the Adding Machine was originally thought to be a side-project of Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster (both of Neutral Milk Hotel). But the project has grown to include the Elephant Six Orchestra and many others. In March 2001, a CD entitled Major Organ and the Adding Machine was released on Orange Twin Records.
