Marathon Man Lyrics

Twenty years with my brain in a book
Tryin' to find out who I am
Endless nights and Olympian dreams
Of a race I never ranSomeone's callin' my name
It's the crowd in the stands
Don't know how I became
What I suddenly amMarathon man, keep a runnin'
Marathon man, keep a runnin'
I've been searchin' so long
But the answer is finally at hand
I'm a marathon manWind is gone and my head's in a haze
But I must keep up the pace
Got to think about strategy here
If I hope to win the raceSomeone's callin' my name
It's the crowd in the stands
Concentrate on the pain
Put my soul in commandMarathon man, keep a runnin'
Marathon man, keep a runnin'

I've been searchin' so long
But the answer is finally at hand
I'm a marathon manWasting my youth
Chasing dreams, testing truth
Taking turns being deceived
And deceivin'Bound with a rope
Made of heroes and hope
Till I found nothin' left
To believe inMarathon man, keep a runnin'
Marathon man, keep a runnin'
I've been searchin' so long
But the answer is finally at hand
I'm a marathon man

Eric Carmen (former singer of The Raspberries) is best known for his first single All By Myself (released in 1976) and his 1987 comeback single Hungry Eyes (written by J. DeNicola and F. Previte for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack). The former, a power ballad penned by Eric, was based on a classical theme by Sergei Rachmaninoff. It was more recently covered by Celine Dion and used in the familiar opening scene of Bridget Jones's Diary.
