Mean to Me Lyrics

There's an empty place inside that is hurting me
Place that keeps my heart out on its own
Disconnected function of my wretchedness
Keeps me so hard pressedIt's a place where words are spoken you will never hear
Broken bridge of lines that just won't come
An empty lung that won't give the wind to speak at me
How far can it be from home? Why you gotta be so mean to me?
Why you gotta drag me down just to make me see?
You know I don't listen good and I'm always in need
Why you gotta be so mean to me?Do you think that it got up and left for good this time?
A crowd of faceless strangers moving on
A feeling that you left it all behind you now
That it doesn't hurt somehow to knowWhy you gotta be so mean to me?
Why you gotta drag me down just to make me see?
You know I don't listen good and I'm always in need
Why you gotta be so mean to me?So open up the book that you keep deep inside
Let the pages yellow in the sun
Show them that you're not afraid to let them see

How far you can be from homeWhy you gotta be so mean to me?
Why you gotta drag me down just to make me see?
You know I don't listen good and I'm always in need
Why you gotta be so fucking mean to me?Why you gotta be, why you gotta be?
Why you gotta be, why you gotta be?
Why you gotta be, why you gotta be?
Why you gotta be so mean to me?

1. Tonic is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1993 that has earned two Grammy nominations to date. Originally founded by Emerson Hart and Jeff Russo, later members have included Dan Lavery, Kevin Shepard, and Dan Rothchild. Signed to a recording contract in 1995, the band released their debut album Lemon Parade in 1996. The single "If You Could Only See" reached #11 on the Billboard Airplay Hot 100, and Lemon Parade itself reached platinum status.

Tonic spent much of the next two years touring, adding to its reputation as a relentlessly gigging band. In addition to extensive touring Tonic produced other work, including songs for feature film soundtracks like Scream 2 and The X-Files. After self-producing their 1999 album Sugar, they earned two Grammy nominations for their 2002 album Head on Straight. The band then went on hiatus beginning in 2004 while its members pursued solo work and other musical endeavors. Tonic became active again in late 2008, embarking on a tour and releasing a greatest hits compilation. These efforts set the stage for their self-titled fourth studio album, which was released in 2010. Tonic continues to actively tour.
