My Friends Are Gonna Be Strangers Lyrics

Oh, the love you promised would be mine forever
I would have bet my bottom dollar on
Well, it sure turned out to be a short forever
Just once I turned by back and you were goneFrom now on all my friends are gonna be strangers
I'm all through, ever trusting anyone
The only thing I can count on now is my fingers
I was a fool believing in you and now you are goneIt amazes me not knowing any better
Than to think I had a love that would be true
Why I should be taken out and tarred and feathered?
To have let myself be taken in by you
From now on all my friends are gonna be strangers
I'm all through, ever trusting anyone
The only thing I can count on now is my fingers
I was a fool believing in you and now you are gone

Merle Ronald Haggard (born April 6, 1937) is an American country music singer, guitarist and songwriter.
Emerging from prison in the 1960s, Merle Haggard has become one of the true giants of country music, as a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band "The Strangers" helped create the Bakersfield Sound, characterized by Telecaster guitar twang, vocal harmonies, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville Sound recordings of that era.
