My Funny Valentine Lyrics

Behold the way our fine feathered-friend
His virtue doth parade
Thou knowest not, my dim witted friend
The picture thou hast madeThy vacant brow and thy tousled hair
Conceal thy good intent
I am your noble upright, truthful, sincere
And slightly dopey gentAnd you are my funny valentine, sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of artIs your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little bit weak?
And when you open it to speak, are you smart? But don't change a hair for me not if you care for me
Stay funny valentine stay little valentine stay
Little valentine stay, each day is Valentine's day

The fourth of seven children, John Royce Mathis was born on September 30, 1935 in Gilmer, TX to Clem and Mildred Mathis. As a small boy, the family moved to Post Street in San Francisco. It was there that he learned an appreciation of music from his father who taught him his first song, “My Blue Heaven”. At age eight, his father purchased an old upright piano for $25. When he brought it home, it wouldn’t fit through the front door.
