My Wedding Ring Lyrics

You ask me how long I've been drinkin'
And livin' this honky tonk life
Well listen girls I'll tell you my story
I'm a mother that was once a happy wife
I'm a girl just like so many others
Neither good nor bad, maybe a girl like you
And just think but for the grace of God in heaven
It could have in your heart stop of broke in two
I'm a girl that's left without a future
And the baby boy that has his daddy's name
And the baby looks just like his daddy
But another woman wears my wedding ringI'm a girl that's left without a future

Jean Shepard (born November 21, 1933 in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma as Ollie Imogene Shepard)was one of the first female vocalists in the country music field to become a major star in the early 1950's. Shepard's family moved west to Visalia, California in hopes of a better life. In high school, Shepard formed the Melody Ranch Girls, which became locally famous. One night, Country star Hank Thompson saw Shepard performing at a show and liked what he heard. With Thompson's help, Shepard was able to get a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1952.
