Nine Pound Hammer Lyrics

This nine pound hammer, it's a little too heavy
For my size, honey, for my size
I'm goin on the mountain, gonna see my baby
But I ain't comin' back, no, I ain't comin' backChorus
Roll on buddy, don't you roll too slow
How can I roll, when the wheels won't go
Roll on buddy, pull a load of coal
How can I pull , when the wheels won't rollWell, it's a long way to harlan, it's a long way to hazard
Just to get a little brew, just to get a little brew
Well, when I'm long gone you can make my tombstone
Outta number nine coal, outta number nine coal(chorus)(inst. break)(chorus)

Townes Van Zandt (John Townes Van Zandt, born at Fort Worth, Texas, March 7, 1944 and died at Smyrna, Tennessee, January 1, 1997). He was a country and folk singer and poet. While alive, Van Zandt was labelled as a cult musician. Though he had a small and devoted fanbase, he never had a successful album or single, and even had difficulty keeping his recordings in print. Many of his songs, including "If I Needed You," "To Live Is To Fly," and "No Place to Fall" are considered standards of their genre. AllMusic has called him "one of the greatest country and folk artists of his generation."
