Anibal Arias learned to play the guitar at age four, influenced by his father who was guitarist, singer and member of the duo Acosta-Villafañe. At age nine, along with his brothers and cousins he formed the group ¨Los Catamarqueñitos ", in which he played duets with her older sister Amanda.

At age ten Anibal started to seriously study the guitar with Don Pedro Ramírez Sánchez (Buenos Aires, 1885 / 1959), also a teacher and friend of his father. It was his only teacher, friend and adviser of his future professional dedication.
Until the age of eighteen he went through the most prestigious guitar schools at the time, (Sagreras, Sinopoli, Legnani, Sor, Carulli, Aguado, Coste, Tarrega, etc.), which gave him a solid technical and interpretative approach to the guitar.
Later, already freed from the tutelage of his master conductor, he continued studying and perfecting the technique of the instrument, becoming a true autodidact.
Since 1940 Aníbal Arias began a series of recitals of classical music. However, his choice fell on the popular music of Argentina, a genre that would give him a long and brilliant career.
He chose Tango, with occasional interventions in folk music, (The Arrieros Cuyanos, Virginia Vera, Vera Duo - Molina, Alberto Castelar, Rogelio Araya, Hilda Vivar, Waldo Belloso, Duo Moreno - Sallago, Ramona Galarza, Julia Vidal, Hermanas Beron Hugo del Valle, Duo Llamas - Barroso Barroso Hnos).
His first appearance as a professional in Tango dates back to 1940, when he accompanied a singer in the neighborhood of Mataderos: Angel Reco. With him, Anibal traveled many places in the Capital City and greater Buenos Aires to join in 1949 Alberto Ortiz's Guitar Quartet in "La Querencia", which a place visited in wich he accompanied every known artist in traditional venues like that.

In 1953 he joined Hector Mauré's group of guitars for four years and also served as soloist in cinemas.
He joined numerous ensembles: A puro Tango quartet with Nijenson Miguel, Jorge Carreras soloists, a trio with Osvaldo Tarantino & Osvaldo Risso, several quartets, with Enrique Alessio, Jorge Dragone, Armando Pontier, Stamponi Hector Luis Stazo, Eduardo Ferri Celso Amato, Osvaldo Piro, and Jose Francisco Grillo Libertella, among others. Finally, he joined the quartet of Anibal Troilo from 1969 until his death in 1975.
Countless singers have been accompanied by Aníbal Arias: Hector Maure, Osvaldo Alonso, Libertad Lamarque, Olga Cabrera, Raul Beron, Carlos Acuña, Tania, Angel Cardenas, Roberto Rufino, Julio Sosa, Floreal Ruiz, Edmundo Rivero, Roberto Goyeneche, Enzo Valentino, Nestor Fabian, Violeta Rivas, Alberto Morán, Jorge Sobral, Jorge Casal, Susana Rinaldi, Argentino Ledesma, among others.
Since 1980 he is the soloist of the Orquesta del Tango de Buenos Aires and founded the People's Music School, under the Ministry of Culture of the Province of Buenos Aires, where he is professor of the department for History of Tango & Guitar Tango.
In 1985 the ¨Asoción Gardeliana¨ gave him the "Orden del Porteño", in 1986 he was awarded the "Gardel de Oro" by the ¨Centro Cultural del Tango¨ and in 1987 the Casa del Tango de Buenos Aires awarded him the prize "Fundación Casa del Tango .
