Nothin' but a Long Goodbye Lyrics

Somedays shine so brightly, like gold dust in a pan
And some days you hold so lightly they go slipping right thru your hand
And those of us who are so lucky get to grow old before we die
Somethimes it seems this old life ain't nothin' but a long goodbye
Fallen leaves outside my window on this October day
I always dreamed the last rows of summer are fading in grey
And when I see the seasons changing, it brings a tear unto my eye
Somtimetimes it seems this old life ain't nothin' but a long goodbye
And every day people leaving for someplace far away
And everyday people greivin' over things they did't do or say
And in the great big picture it's just a twinkling of an eye
Sometimes it seems this old life ain't nothin' but a long goodbye

David Mallett plays folk songs founded on his experiences of New England but tackling current global issues. The song structures are simple without being trite and direct without being rude. He is able to evoke beauty in a way which is violently moving.

He performed first age 10 as a child duo with his brother. He flirted with Nashville in the 1970's but the glitzy country scene didn't fit his approach or priorities. More recently he has developed a raw edge which gives his songs even more impact.
