Objects In Motion Lyrics

Advisory - the following lyrics contain explicit language:
Objects in motion tend to stay that wayYou can't waste the whole damn day
Loving what you need to cast away
Case in point, just yesterday I found a suitcase
Full of love letters floating down a cool brown riverUnsigned and undelivered, they set my mind
To wandering as to the history of the unknown writer
Did she marry, did she run, was she old, was she young?
Was her heart undone by the cruel business of loving? These objects in motion, these objects in motion
Objects in motion tend to stay that way or soI learned on the riverbank just yesterday
For shortly thereafter, I beheld as if in a dream
The body of a young girl, adrift beneath the surface

Of the cool brown water, my friends, so unnerved was IBy this cruel apparition, that I let loose of that suitcase
And it tumbled right back in the river, then spellbound
I watched as a halo of love letters formed a circle
On the surface of the water, right over her body and drifted awayThese objects in motion, these objects in motion
Objects in motion tend to stay that wayYou can't waste the whole damn day
Loving what you need to cast away
For from the flame of love comes the cinder of regret
Sometimes the thing you cling to most is the thing you'd best forgetThese objects in motion, these objects in motion

Jim White is a southern gothic alt-country singer-songwriter. He has released four albums as a solo artist.

While his music is based in americana, he borrows elements from rock, rhythm and blues, and even electronica, often piecing sounds together in the lo-fi cut-and-paste fashion of artists like Tom Waits. His albums have featured a wide variety of collaborators, such as Victoria Williams, Morcheeba, Aimee Mann, Barenaked Ladies, and Joe Henry. He is signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop label and appeared in the BBC documentary, Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, which looks at musicians inspired by the culture of the American South.

Not be confused with the acclaimed Dirty Three / Cat Power / Smog / P. J. Harvey / Nina Nastasia drummer, who also had a recent collaboration album "You Follow Me" with Nastasia under the name of Nina Nastasia And Jim White
