Oh My Captain Lyrics

Oh my captain, Oh my captain
I've been working hard for you
Trying to make you love me too
Doing all that I can for my captainOh my captain, open your eyes
See the rebel on the stairs
And are there roamers everywhere
And how it seems that no one cares for my captainTell me now what is going on
See the ground that I'm standing on
How it crumbles at my feet
As we dance you remind meOh my captain, Oh my captain
I've remembered every song
And now I've learned to sing them all
Still I wonder what is wrong with my captainOh my captain, hold on to me
Tell me why you let me go
And why the anchor man needs rope
Already half way off the boat for my captainTell me now what is going on
See the tower that I'm coming from
How it shakes beneath my feet

As we fall you remind meTell me now what is going on
See the ground that I'm standing on
How it crumbles at my feet
As we dance you remind meOh my captain, Oh my captain
Now it's time for me to part
Rip the needle from my heart
We were so wrong from the start, oh my captain

It’s hard to pinpoint the moment that songs are born, the day casual hummers become singers or scribblers become songwriters. Rayland Baxter certainly can’t, and he wouldn’t want to. Though he grew up in Nashville to the sounds of his father’s pedal steel, he didn’t dream of being a rock star. He loved music, of course, but he liked other things, too: being outside, playing sports, working at the bait shop to make spare change.
