On This Land Lyrics

God bless the daffodils
The green grass on the hills
And the trees that grow all aroundGod bless all the sheep that graze before they sleep
Upon the hilly ground
Try not to make a sound, not a soundOn this land, we defended with our lives
You understand
There could be much pleasure
So stand once again to keep her divine
On this landSomeday, we'll lay down to die
You understand
It would be a blessing
(It would be a blessing)
To know that you died
Inside your proud homeGod bless the daffodils
The green grass on the hills
And the trees that grow all aroundGod bless all the sheep that graze before they sleep
Upon the hilly ground
Try not to make a sound, not a soundOn this land, we defended with our lives

You understand
There could be much pleasure
So stand once again to keep her divine
On this landSomeday, we'll lay down to die
You understand
It would be a blessing
(It would be a blessing)
To know that you died
Inside your proud homeOn this land
On this land
On this landOn this land, we defended with our lives
You understand
There could be much pleasure
(There could be much pleasure)
So stand once again to keep her divine
On this landSomeday, we'll lay down to die
You understand
It would be a blessing
(It would be a blessing)
To know that you died
Inside your proud homeOn this land
On this land
On this land

Middle of the Road are a pop group from Scotland who enjoyed great success across Europe in the early 1970s. They had three major hits in the UK singles chart, all of them bubblegum pop classics: "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" (Number 1), "Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum" (Number 2) and "Soley Soley" (Number 5), all in 1971. But in other European countries, their success continued well into 1972 and 1973, with songs like "Sacramento", "Samson and Delilah", "Bottom's Up" and "The Talk of All the USA".
