One Part Be My Lover Lyrics

When he looks in her eyes, he sees only the truth
Tellin' him he's been livin' a lie
Over and over like a line in a song
About all the love he let pass him byTo her he might be the man of her dreams
To find where she's been hiding inside
Broken or battered, it really don't matter
Her heart's like a wave and he's the tideThey're not forever, just for today
One part be my lover, one part go awayHe's like a boxer who had to retire
After winning but killing a man
All of the moves and none of the courage
Afraid to throw a punch that might landNot too much later, she can't meet his glance
You see her start pulling away
Over and over, like fire and ice
One is color, one is grayThey're not forever, just for today
One part be my lover, one part go awaySo if you know how, why don't you say 'em a prayer?
They're gonna need all the help they can get
They remember too much about what went wrong
It might be they should learn to forgetForget themselves in each other

And leave what belongs in the past
Carry their hearts like a newborn child
'Cause it's only the moment that lastsThey're not forever, just day to day
One part be my lover, one part go awayOne part go away
Oh be my lover

Bonnie Raitt, (born November 8, 1949) is an American blues and R&B singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born in Burbank, California, the daughter of Broadway musical star John Raitt. Raitt began playing guitar at an early age, something not a lot of her high school girlfriends did. "I had played a little at school and at camp," she later recalled in a July 2002 interview. "My parents would drag me out to perform for my family, like all parents do, but it was a hobby—nothing more...I think people must wonder how a white girl like me became a blues guitarist.
