One Takes the Blame Lyrics

When it's over
God knows as well as we did
When we pack up
Stack up what's her's and what's hisWhen we make up
The stories to cover up the shame
They never will believe we simply fell out of love
So one takes the bow, one takes the blameIt won't be easy
To throw away so many years and smile
But don't feel guilty
We gave it our best for a whileBut the story
We tell our friends must always be the same
'Cause they never would believe it was really no one's fault
One takes the bow, one takes the blameOne takes the bow, one takes the blame
That's the way you have to play the game
Your friends meet someone, they can talk about and blame
And God forbid, that my friends need the same
Ain't that a shame?When we get lonely
And lonely we'll get now and then

Just remember
That somewhere we both still have a friendLove's not forever
And ours went as gently as it came
So for all the years I loved you and you know I really loved you
You take the bow, I'll take the blame
You take the bow, I'll take the blame

The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia. Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler".
