Only a Man Lyrics

I used to live my life in fear
Was worried all the time
From waking up to laying down
I had no peace of mindThe world became a darkened place
A struggle without end
Although bitter times those were
The days that I began
To understand, I was only a manI grew up singing songs in church
With questions in my mind
Then turn my back and ran away
From God who gave me lifeThen one nightHis presence fell
I wept and shook, and knelt
I fell down and cried
Dear Jesus, rescue me again
I understand, I'm only a manAnd He said, "What will it be now
Will you choose Me
Or keep swimming
Upstream now""I've been inside your head, hearing you scream out

Well, here I am, just take my hand
And I'll take out all of the things
And all of the fear, all of the fear"I'll give You my burdens
I'll gave peace
All of my desires
I'll give you what you needAnd what about these chains, Lord?
I'll set you free
But they're so heavy
Lay them at my feet
I'll lay them at Your feetJust promise You won't leave
I'll never leave
So where do I go from here, Lord
Just follow me, just follow meI'll follow You
Just follow me
Wherever You lead, wherever You lead
Wherever You lead

Jonny Lang (born Jon Gordon Langseth, Jr. in Fargo, North Dakota, January 29, 1981) is a Grammy Award-winning American blues and gospel singer.

In 1995 (at the age of 14) his first album, Smokin’ by Kid Jonny Lang & The Big Bang was released. As a result of the LP becoming a regional hit, a major-label bidding war ensued that culminated in Lang signing to A&M Records in 1996. In 1997 (at the age of 15) his major-label debut, Lie to Me, was released to mixed reviews.

Part of his success is due to a voice that sounds like that of 40 year-old blues veteran, containing a harshness tempered by a fine falsetto that has taken prominence in his newest albums. Another part of his success is his scorching, electrifying guitar solos, which display a prodigious natural talent honed by years of practice and playing. Whatever the secret to his success, the youngster has quickly become a fixture in the blues world, drawing crowds wherever he goes.

Lang has drawn deeply from the wellspring of influences from the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Luther Allison, and Albert Collins. As he becomes more confident in his role as a veteran instead of a boy wonder, one can see the possibilities he has yet to share with his fans.
