Polk Salad Annie Lyrics

Down in Louisiana where the alligators grow so mean
There lived a girl that I swear to the world
Made the alligators look tame
Polk salad Annie, Polk salad Annie
Oh, everybody said it was a shame
'Cause her mama was working on chain gang
Yes, she was
A mean vicious woman
Every day before supper time
She head down over to the truck patch
Pick her a mess of Polk salad
And carry it home in a tote sack
Polk salad Annie, the 'gators got you granny
Everybody said it was a shame
'Cause her mama was a workin' on the chain gang
Yes, she was
Her daddy was lazy and no count
Claimed he had a bad back

All of her brothers were fit for stealin'
Watermelons out of my truck patch
Polk salad Annie, oh, that 'gators got you granny
Oh, everybody said it was a shame
'Cause her mama was a workin' on the chain gang
Yes, she was
Everybody said it was a shame
'Cause her mama was a workin' on the chain gang
Yes, she was
Mean ol' mama
