Purgatory Lyrics

So here I stand
Completely alone
My skin absorbs the rainHelpless to control
Pieces within the whole
I can feel it starting againA sudden descent
I never meant
To manifest itselfCaught unaware
In frozen air
By visions sent in stealthHow far I've fallen
Dancing in the ruins of Purgatory
My time is borrowed
But still I waste awayI've seen your eyes
Search desperate skies
For meaning they can't findSuccumbed to fate's
Unsteady gait
And found it too unkindPlunge through the depths
Of what you let
Control you for too longLife's fickle hand

Dealt reprimands
You prayed for all alongHow far you've fallen
Dancing in the ruins of Purgatory
Your time is borrowed
But still you waste awayWatch the world pass
Through broken glass
And wonder what went wrongMonuments fall
On shattered walls
We once believed so strongOur false beliefs
Are merely thieves
That steal our precious timeAnd off they flee
In symmetry
Never punished for their crimesHow far we've fallen
Dancing in the ruins of Purgatory
Our time is borrowed
But still we waste away

"Assemblage 23" is a one-man futurepop/ebm project, whose sole member is musician Tom Shear, based in Seattle, Washington, USA. Prior to starting Assemblage 23, Shear experimented with music under the name "Man on a Stage", beginning in the early 1980s. Most of Shear's music at this point was instrumental, as he lacked the confidence to sing; the quality of the music itself was highly questionable by his own admission. Shear eventually began to add vocals to his music; at the same time, Shear was also playing bass in a punk band called the "Advocates".
