Rainbows Lyrics

(Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears)
When the one you love has gone and you're left alone to count the cost
When your Mr. Right proves wrong and it's plain to see you've loved and lost
Just remember even grey sky clears, when the sun appears
There'll be rainbows in your tears
(Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears)
Oh, I know the story well for I too have loved and met defeat
I was sixteen when I fell and since then my life tastes bitter-sweet
And I've waited through the lonely years, hoping she appears
To put rainbows in your tears
(Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears)
Each new kiss her lips are taking
Means once more my heart is aching, breaking
(Rainbows in your tears)

But I want her, come what may, she will always be the one for me
I keep hoping some fine day that at last she'll understand and see
How I've loved her, loved her all these years, praying she appears
To put rainbows in my tears
(Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in my tears)
Praying she appears
To put rainbows in your tears
(Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears)
Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears
Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows in your tears

England during the late '50s had its equivalents to Frankie Avalon and Fabian, teenage boy singers whose sounds were specifically tailored to appeal to the most romantic sides of the young female psyche and not offend their parents. Craig Douglas was one of the better of these and has proved one of the most enduring, still performing more than 40 years after cutting his first record. Born Terry Perkins on the Isle of Wight, he was one of a pair of twins (and those twins were one of three sets among nine children).
