Elle s'appelle, French for 'She calls herself', was Andrew Donovan singing and playing bass, Lucy Blakeley singing and playing keys and Owen Cox on the drums. The noise they made has been described as sounding 'like Mates of State covering XTC and Billy Joel with occasional Freddie Mercury vocals', while the band referred to their songs as 'Hyperactive nursery rhymes'. Elle s'appelle enjoyed tour support slots for Hot Club de Paris, Shiny Toy Guns, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Good Shoes, and The Diamond Hoo Haa Men.
