Respectable Street Lyrics

Advisory - the following lyrics contain explicit language:
It's in the order of their hedgerows
It's in the way their curtains open and close
It's in the look they give you down their nose
All part of decency's jigsaw I supposeHeard the neighbor slam his car door
Don't he realize this is respectable street
What d'you think he bought that car for
'Cos he realize this is respectable streetNow they talk about abortions
In cosmopolitan proportions to their daughters
As they speak of contraception
And immaculate receptions on their portable

Sony Entertainment CentersHeard the neighbor slam his car door
Don't he realize this is respectable street
What d'you think he bought that car for
'Cos he realize this is respectable streetNow she speaks about diseases
And which sex position pleases best her old man
Avon lady fills the creases
When she manages to squeeze in past the caravans
That never move from their front gardensHeard the neighbor slam his car door
Don't he realize this is respectable street
What d'you think he bought that car for
'Cos he realize this is respectable streetIt's in the order of their hedgerows
It's in the way their curtains open and close
It's in the look they give you down their nose
All part of decency's jigsaw I supposeSunday church and they look fetching
Saturday night saw him retching over our fence
Bang the wall for me to turn down
I can see them with their stern frown as they dispense
The kind of look that says they're perfectHeard the neighbor slam his car door
Don't he realize this is respectable street
What d'you think he bought that car for
'Cos he realize this is respectable streetHe realize this is respectable street
He realize this is respectable street
He realize this is respectable street

XTC were an influential rock band (starting out as a post-punk outfit but eventually developing into a sound that was a mix of new wave and alternative/college rock) which formed Swindon, England in 1972. For most of their career, the band consisted of Andy Partridge (vocals, guitar), Colin Moulding (vocals, bass) and Dave Gregory (guitar, keyboards). Gregory replaced founding keyboardist Barry Andrews in 1979 and left himself in 1999.
