Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town Lyrics

You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair
Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere
The shadows on the wall tell me the sun is going down
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to townFor it wasn't me that started that old crazy asian war
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chores
And I know Ruby that I'm not the man I used to be
But Ruby, I still need your companyIt's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralyzed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age, Ruby I realize
But it won't be long I've heard them say until I'm not around
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to townShe's leavin' now for I just heard the slamming of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam a hundred times before
If I could move I get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town
Don't take your love to town for my sake turn around

The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia. Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler".
