Ruins Lyrics

Were you just being funny
When you cut down my tree?
I was hanging my hat there
On a bent kneeWere you just being clever?
There's so much I don't know
I'll be tracing my outline
In the sunshineI got hit with the handle
When you split through my coats
Now I'm searching through empty pockets
They fill me up with your ghostI'll make a ladder
Climb these words here
Take it higher
Oh, have mercyWere you just being funny
When you put me to sleep?
I was staring the sky down
Through the dark leavesI'll make a ladder
Climb these words here
Take it higher

Oh, have mercyIf it matters
I'll knock the dust off
Clean my curses
Please, have mercyYou make and break me a million pieces
Let 'em shine, let 'em shine
You push, you tear the walls around me
Ruins in the starry skiesYou make and break me a million pieces
Let 'em shine, let 'em shine
You push, you tear the walls around me
Ruins under starry skiesWere you just being funny
Were you just being funnyNow we're disappearing
Strictly speaking the vague lines of ghosts
You were talking 'bout heaven
All I see is unknownThrough clouds, surrendering reason
The emptiness keeps us afloat
You were talking 'bout heaven
All I see is unknown

Matt Pond PA (usually written with lowercase letters: matt pond PA) is an indie band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1998 by singer/songwriter Matt Pond, along with guitarist/bassist Josh Kramer, violinist Rosie McNamara-Jones, cellist Jim Hostetter, and drummer Sean Byrne (previously of Lenola and The Twin Atlas). Matt Pond is the only remaining original member because the band had to reform when Pond moved to New York City. Their debut Deer Apartments gained them recognition in CDNow's Unheard? competition for unsigned artists that same year.
