Salt To The Wounds Lyrics

All is fair in love and war
The piper calls the tune
You haven't really played the game
Till you've broken all the rulesSo take the best of everything
The worst we can refuse
I can't say if we'll win in the end
But we've got nothing to loseAnd when we thought that time stood still
Then changes come too soon
And the songs we hum are out of date
But you can't forget the tuneYou pay the price for holding on
When you know it's time to choose
I can't say if we'll win in the end
But we've got nothing to loseThere's nothing to lose now
Like fools we rush in too soon
And two steps back for every one we take
We're adding salt to the wounds
We're adding salt to the woundsLast to heed the warning signs
That dance before our eyes

And shadows whisper told you so's
Oh, how the fools were wiseI'd only learnt to love the girl
When I heard the news
I didn't say we'd win in the end
But nothing to loseThere's nothing to lose now
Like fools we rush in too soon
And two steps back for every one we take
We're adding salt to the wounds
We're adding salt to the wounds

He recorded his first album, Brand New Star, in 1989. It contained the songs "Brand New Star" and "Just Around The Corner" which came to the attention of Mary Black who recorded both songs. His 1998 album, Worse Than Pride, contained the Irish Top 10 single "Out Of My Head", the second most played song on Irish radio that year.
