Shadows (“Ocean Beach" Outtake) Lyrics

The coarse and white colored skin
It blends with the state you're in
And the wetness of your eyes
Against a sun that clouds blindYou ain't saying nothing that I don't already know
When you say love's dimming light won't shine on tomorrowChalk white apartment's wall
Surfaces my every flaw
And the naked and the still in here
It brings surreal light into clearYou ain't doing nothing that I don't already know
When you hide your sorry head in pillowsYou fake a strained, sort of grin
That matches the shape you're in
And accept any lies are truth
After the long year that we've been throughYou ain't saying nothing that I don't already know
When you say life takes turns like fiery shadows

Red House Painters was the name of an alternative rock group formed in 1989 in San Francisco by singer/songwriter Mark Kozelek, who is currently active in the band Sun Kil Moon, with part of the original RHP line-up. The band is described, along with Low and American Music Club, as one of the linchpins of the slowcore movement in alternative rock. Kozelek used this group primarily as a vehicle for his very personal and emotional songs of despair, pain and suffering.
