Walter Beltrami was born in Brescia, Italy, on July 1974. As a child, he was fascinated by various forms of art and got interested soon in drawing, literature, theatre, movies and eventually music, all dimensions that are still living in his artistic production.

He began studying guitar and playing gigs with different bands like The Crazy Gentlemen, blues band he performed with at Nave Blues Festival 1999, Flat Four and Blue Matter (fusion ensembles featuring argentinian drummer Cristian Judurcha) and a trio dedicated to Jimi Hendrix’s music.

After graduating in Foreign Languages and Literature, he got the chance to move to Boston, where he studied performance and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music, with Mick Goodrick, Ed Tomassi, Dave Santoro, Jon Damian and other well-known musicians and educators.

His interest for jazz and music in general was always connected to both composition and improvisation and thanks to his love for pianists and saxophonists he was able to develop over the years a very personal style on performing and writing. Later, his attention and energies switched to classical musical, especially to Nineteenth Century composers, to the avant-garde, the “european” jazz and various dimensions of improvised music.

During the last years he attended many courses and master classes given by musicians like Chris Cheek, Stefano Battaglia, Pat Metheny, Dave Liebman, Brandford Marsalis, George Duke, Scott Henderson, John Stowell, Pat Martino, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Peter Bernstein, Walter Thompson, Silvye Courvoisier, continuing his musical education at the Musikhochschule in Luzern, where he studied with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Frank Moebus, Christy Doran and Roberto Bossard. There, he graduated with a Master in Performance and Music Education and was chosen as representant of the school and Switzerland and invited to the 17th IASJ Meeting (the world-wide association of schools of jazz directed by David Liebman).
