Slumming On Park Avenue Lyrics

Put on your slumming clothes and get your car
Let's go sightseeing where the high-toned people are
Come on, there's lots of fun in store for you
See how the other half lives on park avenueLet's go slumming, take me slumming
Let's go slumming on park avenueLet us hide behind a pair of fancy glasses
And make faces when a member of the classes passesLet's go smelling where they're dwelling
Sniffing everything the way they doLet us go to it, they do it
Why can't we do it too?
Let's go slumming, nose thumbing, on park avenueLet's go slumming, take me slumming
Let's go slumming on park avenueWhere the social hearts for Broadway lights are throbbing
And they spend their nights in smart cafes hobnobbing, snobbingCome let's eye them, pass right by them
Looking down our noses as they doLet us go to it, they do it
Why can't we do it too?
Let's go slumming, crumb bumming, on park avenue

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 in Newport News, VA – June 15, 1996), also known as Lady Ella (the First Lady of Song), was one of the most influential jazz singers of the 20th Century, the winner of thirteen Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Art presented by President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom presented by President George H. W. Bush. Gifted with a three-octave vocal range, she was noted for her purity of tone, near faultless phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.
