Smoke And Mirrors Lyrics

You're a fraud and you know it
But it's too good to throw it all away
Anyone would do the same
You've got 'em going
And you're careful not to show it
Sometimes you even fool yourself a bit
It's like magic
But it's always been a smoke and mirrors game
Anyone would do the same
So now that you've arrived well you wonder
What is it that you've done to make the grade
And should you do the same?
(Is that too easy?)
Are you only trying to please them
(Will they see then?)
You're desperate to deliver
Anything that could give you
A sense of reassurance

When you look in the mirror
Such highs and lows
You put on quite a show
All these highs and lows
And you're never really sure
What you do it for
Well do you even want to know?
You put on quite a show
(Mother)
Are you watching?
Are you watching?
(Mother)
Are you watching?
(Mother)
You're a fraud and you know it
And every night and day you take the stage
And it always entertains
You're giving pleasure
And that's admirable, you tell yourself
And so you'd gladly sell yourself
To others
(Mother)
Are you watching?
(Mother)
Are you watching?
(Mother)
Are you watching?
(Mother)
Are you watching?
Such highs and lows
You put on quite a show
All these highs and lows
And you're never really sure
What you do it for
Well do you even want to know?
Yeah you put on quite a show

Crash Through are an underground band from Sydney, Australia that produce a raucous mix of loud, ragged, often improvised music. Their musical morning tea often consists of sandwiches filled with rock, art, indie, blues, and noise, whilst guests can been seen sipping on the occasional brew of punk and even funk elements.

They formed in 2008 when Phil, Tim and Rich decided to combine their years of experience playing in separate obscure Sydney bands and form the ultimate obscure Sydney band. They are particularly useless at writing band biographies, have no talent for self-promotion, and thus find themselves in a bit of a tough situation since they've finally recorded their masterpiece and want to tell the world about it.

Their debut album, 'Beautiful Ragged Mayhem' is a sonic journey through rock, folk and miscellany that combines tales of the ragged side of Sydney life with observations on the state of the world... with a song about milk crates. It doesn't really fit into a genre, their references aren't obvious, but it's a damn good album that stays true to its story from start to finish. If you're looking for the perfect blend of 'dub-indie-folk' with 'hispanic-food-metal', you probably need to look somewhere else, but if you're looking for something fresh that stands on its own as a singular piece of music and makes you feel things you haven't felt for years, 'Beautiful Ragged Mayhem' is for you.

Crash Through launch 'Beautiful Ragged Mayhem' Friday September 17th at the Annandale.
