Something You Can't Buy Lyrics

The greatest Christmas present
Is something you cant buyWhen World War II was over
We trimmed the tree alone
But we saved the star for daddy
'Cause daddy was coming homeWe bought momma a new dress
We bought daddy a tie
But he brought us each something
That money couldnt buyThe greatest Christmas present
Is something you cant buyIve talked to pa this evening
For an hour on the phone
He said, "Dont spend a lot on presents
(He said, "Son, now dont you all spend a lot of money on presents")
We just want you all at home"
("You know all momma and I want is just to have you all here at home")But well buy momma a new dress
And daddy another tie
And well spend lots of time together
And thats something you cant buyThe greatest Christmas present
Is something you cant buySome day, and I know its coming

When all of us wont be
Together there for Christmas
(I hate to face it but I know we wont always be together at Christmas)
You know, daddys seventy-three
(Doesn't seem possible but guess your daddy will turn seventy-three)And to pay back all he gave me
I cant but I will try
Ill pass along to my kids
Something they cant buyThe greatest Christmas present
Is something you cant buy

The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia. Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler".
