Soul Crying Out Lyrics

Listen to the rhythm
Listen to the beat
It has a cold wind blowing
Up through the street
Soul crying out
People crying outIn through the valleys
In through the streets
Feel the whole world moving
Underneath our feet
Something's going on
I said what is going wrongI feel them coming
So close behind
Sister says, we're next in line
The man he says, that's OK
And the Government says you're gonna pay, pay, pay
And you pay
Still you payIt's just a soul crying out
It's just the people crying out

It's the land crying out
And I can hear you crying outAnd I say, I don't know
Maybe I don't care
What I know is
I gotta get out of here
And I'm going
Going any day
Some sweet day
Some sweet day
I gotta find a wayI can hear the lovers, whisper in the street
See a crowd has gathered underneath the heat
I hear what they say
But I don't believe what they sayI see the woman, with tears in her eyes
I hear the baby, calling in the night
Something on the bed, was it something she said
Hell this is not right
What goes on through the nightI hear her coming, all in my mind
Sweet common love, so hard to find
Someone said, man that's sa
And the people walk by, cos they're so blindAnd you pay
Still you payIt's just a soul crying out
Just the people crying out
It's the earth crying out
And I can hear you crying out
And I can feel you crying outAnd I say, I don't know
Maybe I don't care
All I know is, I gotta get out of here
And I'm going, going any way
Do you know, some place to go
I'm getting out of hereWhere will I find some peace of mind
I'm getting out of hereI come walking to you
I come singing to you
Some sweet day
I'm gonna walk away
I'm gonna walk awayIt's just the soul crying out
It's just the land crying out
It's just the children crying out
All the babies crying outAny way, some sweet day
I'm gonna walk away
Turn awayIt's just the soul crying out
It's just the land crying outI wanna hear
I want you here
Some sweet dayJust a soul crying out
Of a land crying out anyway
When you say
Some sweet day...

Simple Minds is a Scottish rock band which achieved its greatest worldwide popularity from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. The band, from the South Side of Glasgow, produced a handful of critically acclaimed albums in the early 1980s. Simple Minds has secured a string of successful hit singles, the best known being their #1 worldwide hit single "Don't You (Forget About Me)", from the soundtrack of the John Hughes movie The Breakfast Club and #3 worldwide hit single "Alive and Kicking". The band has sold more than 40 million albums since 1979.

Founding members Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar, keyboards), along with drummer Mel Gaynor, are the core of the band, which currently features Andy Gillespie on keyboards and Ged Grimes on bass guitar.

Formed in late 1977 from the ashes of Johnny & the Self-Abusers, Simple Minds initially signed to Arista who recorded and released their first three albums. The musical changes Simple Minds went through in these first three albums shows how diverse their song range is. Tracks to compare would be Chelsea Girl, their first single with hints of Johnny And The Self Abusers, and I Travel an almost disco sounding track.

Virgin Records saw the potential in the band and in 1981 signed them up. The first Virgin Records release Sons And Fascination/Sister Feelings Call was a double album, but later released as two single albums - Sons and Fascination and Sister Feelings Call.

They first found noteable success with New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), which is still regarded as their best album by some fans.

They have had great commercial success in Europe and across the world since then (in the 80s and early 90s they sold 30 million albums worldwide). In the United States, however, they are known primarily for Don't You (Forget About Me) which was used in the soundtrack to the film the breakfast club and went to number one. Ironically it is one of few songs recorded by the band that they didn't write themselves.

In 1985 Once Upon A Time yielded a string of worldwide hit singles, (Alive And Kicking, Sanctify Yourself and Ghostdancing) leading to playing bigger arenas and supporting Amnesty International with donations from record sales.

Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill remain the core of the band to this day, with Andy Gillespie (keyboards), Mel Gaynor (drums) and Eddie Duffy (bass) supporting. Other members of the band: Michael MacNeil (keyboards), Derek Forbes (Bass) and John Giblin (Bass).

They have maintained a strong fan base world-wide and their album Black and White 050505 received critical acclaim on its release in September 2005, although it did not secure a release in the United States.

The band embarked on a UK-wide arena tour towards the end of 2008 to celebrate 30 years. This was cosidered a great success. Their new album Graffiti Soul is to be released on 25 May 2009.

Jim Kerr was married to Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders in 1984 (divorced 1992). They have one child, Yasmin Paris Kerr (1985). He was subsequently married to actress Patsy Kensit in 1992 (divorced, 1996) with whom he had a son, James Kerr (born, 1993).
