Spirit On The Water Lyrics

Spirit on the water
Darkness on the face of the deep
I keep thinkin' about you, baby
And I can't hardly sleepI'm travelin' by land
Travelin' through the dawn of day
You're always on my mind
I can't stay awayI'd forgotten about you
Then you turned up again
I always knew
We were meant to be more than friendWhen you're near
It's just as plain as it can be
I'm wild about you, gal
You ought to be a fool about meCan't explain
The sources of this hidden pain
You burned your way into my heart
You got the key to my brainI've been tramplin' through mud
Prayin' to the powers above
I'm sweatin' blood

You got a face that begs for loveLife without you
Doesn't mean a thing to me
If I can't have you
I'll throw my love into the deep blue seaSometimes I wonder
Why you can't treat me right?
You do good all day
And then you do wrong all nightWhen you're with me
I'm a thousand times happier than I could ever say
What does it matter?
Or what price I pay? They brag about your sugar
Brag about it all over town
Put some sugar in my bowl
I feel like layin' downI'm as pale as a ghost
Holdin' a blossom on a stem
You ever seen a ghost? No
But you have heard of themI see you there
I'm blinded by the colors I see
I take good care
Of what belongs to meI hear your name
Ringin' up and down the line
I'm sayin' it plain
These ties are strong enough to bindNow your sweet voice
Calls out from some old familiar shrine
I got no choice
Can't believe these things would ever fade from your mindI could live forever
With you perfectly
You don't ever
Have to make a fuss over meFrom East to West
Ever since the world began
I only mean it for the best
I want to be with you any way I canI've been in a brawl
Now I'm feeling the wall
I'm going 'way, baby
I won't be back 'til fallHigh on the hill
You can carry all my thoughts with you
You've numbed my will
This love could tear me in twoI wanna be with you in paradise
And it seems so unfair
I can't go to paradise, no more
I killed a man back thereYou think, I'm over the hill
Think, I'm past my prime
Let me see what you got
We can have a whoppin' good time

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, United States) is an American musician, poet and artist whose position in popular culture is unique.

Dylan started his musical odyssey in 1959 and much of his best known work is from the 1960s, when he became an informal documentarian and reluctant figurehead of American unrest. Some of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'", became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements. His song "Like a Rolling Stone", released in July of 1965, was named "The Greatest Song of All Time" by Rolling Stone magazine in 2004, placing #1 in a list of 500 titles. Dylan remains an influential and popular artist; his most recent album of new songs, 2009's Together Through Life, reached #1 on the charts in the US, Britain, France and several other countries.

Bob Dylan's strong influence over the past few years is becoming even more prominent amongst a growing group of younger emerging artists such as George Ellias, and Devendra Banhart.

Dylan's early lyrics incorporated politics, social commentary, philosophy and literary influences, defying existing pop music conventions and appealing widely to the counterculture of the time. While expanding and personalizing musical styles, Dylan has shown steadfast devotion to traditions of American song, from folk and country/blues to rock and roll and rockabilly, to Gaelic balladry, even jazz, swing and broadway.

After becoming a Christian, Dylan explored themes of faith, redemption and love while mining the gospel vein. In a few years he found an equilibrium. His last albums can be seen as new highlights in his important career.

Dylan performs with the guitar, keyboard and harmonica. Backed by a changing lineup of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s. He has also recently performed alongside other iconic artists, such as Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty and Eric Clapton. Although his contributions as a performer and recording artist have been central to his career, his songwriting is generally held as his highest accomplishment.
