Standing In the Fire Lyrics

Well I'm Standing In The Fire again
Everybody knows I'm a workin' man
In some ways it's either sink or swim
These days I don't mind givin' in
You get but one chance to go 'round
And make the most of what I found
I'm Standing In The Fire again
Everybody knows I'm a workin' manI've been out of work for such a long long time
Every day down in the factory line
Gettin' on some kind, any kind of good news
Only knowin' there's nothin' left to lose
You get but one chance to go round
And make the most of what I found
I get to work on time every single day
Till the robot takes my job awayYou never get out of this worried life
I do what I can while I'm markin' time
I bet,walk away I'm on sacred ground
Long long way from this factory soundI'm Standing In The Fire again

Everybody knows I'm a workin' man
In some ways it's either sink or swim
These days I don't mind givin' in
I'm Standing In The Fire again
I'm Standing In The Fire again

Poco, founded in 1968 by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Richie Furay and Jim Messina (both inducted 1997 with Buffalo Springfield), was one of the earliest in the "country rock" genre that was later commercially popularized by bands such as the Eagles. The band was completed by Rusty Young (pedal steel guitar, dobro, banjo and mandolin) Randy Meisner on bass and George Grantham on drums. Poco's 1969 debut, "Pickin' Up the Pieces" (the title being a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield), received some critical acclaim but generated very litttle enthusiasm commercially.
