Stay Alive In NYC Lyrics

Yeah, yeah street life, gutter shit
Get real y'all
Soldier life nigga
Get it right
New York City where I'm from
Live or die
Marcy
Do what you doCheck it out now, yo I'm here to put my thing down
Set up shot with cocaine now, pick off niggas who ain't down
I'm in the game now
Brought a couple of cats from the way down
Who know how to slang thowsAnd grimmy niggas who aim wild who just want to rep
And wet niggas who think foul
Ran into Jay while I'm clappin' this math
This crab show me some slab now I'm tryna get backWe played the out skerch nigga smoother then my shirt
Spit a couple of words, a pound, then he merked
Shit he left skid marks I let the clip spark
When off in the hood played the bench till its darkI'm profound to the drug game a thin line between love and hate

Some niggas I love to hate
I thought my connect respect me
This nigga got bad words since some haters wet meTo stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldier
To stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldierTo stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldier
To stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldierCheck it yo I'ma soldier to the heart through my blood line
One way to catch a crab is always on his front time
I keep a chicken on a bench flippin' grippin'
I smoke weed but this shit got a nigga slippin'A herb seed burn me, drop the L
Spot it through my per-if-U this nigga tryna murder me
Shorty wop jumped in front of me
Caught one blaze back empty empty the roots
Through the bitch niggas, take thatNiggaz killed my down bitch bust around bitch
I don't know who clapped so I don't hang around shit
Lame beat me on the ounce of raw
Dominican nigga, look innocent nigga, fuck it I'ma finish this nigga
Back the coop out the lot cock one in the drop
Put the burner in the dash fee dipped in black
Got Bleek on alert for the cat who beat me on the stackTo stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldier
To stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldierTo stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldier
To stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldierYo, yo, slow money, broke niggas, no weed one gun
And my down bitch gone got a nigga on the run
Strip hot niggas came through bang shots
Have me sleeping in my wheels to the real get gotNow I play the cut on some nigga what shit
Flip fo-in-dicals for real now who wants it
Two blocks from the Jay's this nigga lay he pump trays
Try'n to get the Memph man put awayHis next option pack up get out of dodge
When he caught I'ma let the fifth give his face a massage
Too much dro got my eyes low on the creep triple black down
'Cuz I'ma cripple that clownSpotted him by Wood Hall, niggas think the fe-in took off
Like he ran track or he played football
Hot day and everybody outside I'ma catch him on that block
Where the hot wips rideRide slow this nigga out burning trees wit a bad bitch
I'ma put his brain on her sleeve it's already cocked
I move slow up the block, jumped out
Made him tonge kiss the glock
I Squeeze two and niggas seen this nigga drop
Cold of the street and forever stay hot motherfuckerTo stay alive in New York City
To stay alive realize that you got to be a soldier

Malik Thuston Cox (born on June 23, 1978) better known as Memphis Bleek, is a Brooklyn rapper who made his first appearance in Hip Hop on Jay-Z's debut album, Reasonable Doubt in 1996. Memphis Bleek regularly came in contact with rap legends such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z during his childhood, and has collaborated with artists such as Beanie Sigel, Ja Rule and Missy Elliott, among others. "Memphis" is an acronym for Making Easy Money Pimping Hoes In Style.

Early years

Memphis "One Hit Away" Bleek's first mainstream rap vocals appeared on the Clark Kent produced song "Coming of Age", featured on Jay-Z's classic debut LP Reasonable Doubt. Shortly after, Bleek became the first artist signed to Roc-A-Fella Records.

"Coming of Age", ironiclly, was also the title of Memphis' debut LP, which didn't create massive records sales and chart-topping singles as his labelmate and peers' albums had. The same was the case of his second LP, "The Understanding", and third, "M.A.D.E", though the latter spawned his largest amount of sales yet (900,000).

Get Low label and rivalries

In the time between the releases of his second and third albums, Memphis Bleek started his own label, Get Low, which in turn led to the signing of former Junior MAFIA member Lil' Cease. The name of the label has sparked a hip-hop rivalry, or beef, between Memphis Bleek, JT tha Bigga Figga & The Game, the former of which built an independent record label with the same title.

Memphis Bleek was also caught in the middle of the epic Jay-Z and Nas battle, in which Bleek gained a few enemies, most notably Nas and Mobb Deep. Despite boosting Jay-Z and Nas's careers, the beef did little to help Bleek gain any more popularity than he had already attained.

Later years

Remaining one hit away, on May 17, 2005, Bleek released his fourth album titled "534" , in reference to the building he & mentor Jay-Z grew up in, located in the Marcy housing projects of Brooklyn. However, like many of Bleeks previous releases the album suffered in sales, despite decent exposure of the Swizz Beatz produced single 'Like That'.

In fall 2005, Memphis Bleek told MTV that he was recording an album called "The Process", that he would describe as a make or break album, saying "I want to do an album that's through the roof, I want to do a classic album. I feel that if this album I'm not recording is a classic, I'm not even gonna put it out. I have to do it bigger than anybody has ever done it. I have to make a good record this time, not just talking-junk records."The rapper has worked on the album since 2005 and during that time frame he would release the songs "Hustla", "Get Ya Money Off" and "Let It Off". During this time, he would also leave Roc-A-Fella after Jay-Z told him he could run his own company and had the proper distribution deals to do so. He found a new home in 2009 when he signed to Mass Appeal Entertainment which is where he will release his long anticipated album The Process is yet.
