Stay the Road Lyrics

Tired, tired eyes look up and see
All you've done, the path you've come
The things that you've achieved
And when you're doubting
I hope you'll trust in me
Tired, tired eyes look up and seeI've been mining down a dark hole
I've been mining in the rocks
For a golden seam she's got buried deep
Some where inside of her
I've been working for your wonder
I've been mining hard and long
And I will not fold; I'm gonna find that gold
Now my work has just begunCome on, pilgrim, won't you stay the road
Put that distance from your mind
Don't you let it show
Well, it's just a ride, and I'm at your side
If you didn't know
Come on, pilgrim, won't you stay the roadI've been mining down a dark hole

I've been mining in the rocks
For a heart of gold that can't be bought or sold
She's got there inside of her
I've been working for your wonder
I've been mining hard and long
And I won't give up; I'm gonna fill my cup
Now my work has just begunShelter, shelter bell ring out for all below
Keep your doorway open wide
Give us somewhere to go
And when we're full of doubt
And we don't know what about
Don't you tell us no
Shelter, shelter bell ring out for all belowI've been mining down a dark hole
I've been mining in the rocks
For a heart of gold that can't be bought or sold
She's got there inside of her
I've been working for your wonder
I've been mining hard and long
And I won't give up, I'm gonna fill my cup
Now my work has just begunTired, tired eyes look up and see
All you've done, the path you've come
The things that you've achieved
And when you're doubting
I hope you'll trust in me
Tired, tired eyes look up and see

Vocalist and guitarist for Irish rock group The Frames. Hansard quit school at age 13 to begin busking on local Dublin streets. He first came to public attention as guitar player 'Outspan Foster' in the Alan Parker film The Commitments, a role he subsequently regretted, believing it distracted from his music career. In 2003 he presented the first series of Other Voices: Songs from a Room, which showcased Irish music talent on RTÉ. He released The Swell Season, his first solo album, on April 21st 2006, in collaboration with a Czech singer and multiinstrumentalist Markéta Irglová, Marja Tuhkanen and Bertrand Galen.

Glen recently starred in the movie 'Once' alongside Markéta Irglová which won a prestigious Sundance Audience Award in 2007, as well as the 2008 Academy Award for Best Originial Song (for "Falling Slowly"), beating out three songs from the Disney musical "Enchanted" and one song from "August Rush" (both were heavy contenders). Its Irish release took place on 23rd March 2007 and appeared in cinemas further afield later in the year.

Glen's latest album, Rhythm and Repose, was released in June 2012.
